Trauma & EMDR
Do you feel emotionally overwhelmed? Are you having difficulty going about your regular routine, struggling with impaired concentration, intrusive thoughts, or even physical pain? Do you find yourself avoiding things that might remind you of past hurt, or numbing out to avoid everything altogether? If this describes you, you may be experiencing the impact of trauma. Don’t keep going alone, we want to help.
Studies show that most people will experience trauma sometime in their lives. It may be a single event like surviving assault, serious injury, or the loss of a loved one; or it might have been ongoing, like a childhood or relationship characterized by long-term abuse, neglect, harassment, or bullying. It’s even possible to experience vicarious trauma when exposed to the suffering of a loved one. You might be responding to your experience through denial, disbelief, or dissociation. It can be hard to feel like yourself, and even harder to keep on going. Life becomes characterized by “before” and “after,” or sometimes life just feels dark as far back as you can remember. Regardless, normalcy and joy feel unattainable.
It is common to keep our pain a secret, but you don’t have to face it alone anymore. We are here to help you navigate your triggers, anxiety, and unwanted thoughts through talk therapy, mindfulness, and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR). At Known Counseling, we want to help you rewrite the narrative of being a victim, to being the victor of your story. Contact us today and we will gently navigate your experiences together.
